My Therapy Style

I utilize a client-centered approach as a basis of establishing a relationship. This relationship forms from a working alliance based in authenticity, absolute positive regard for anyone seeking help, and listening. An empathetic understanding is the basis of the therapeutic encounter through which an individual feels understood and accepted for who they are. I collaborate on the treatment approaches based on the goals of the individual and my own experience and education.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

My vision is to heal humanity one conversation at a time. I became a mental health professional to connect with others who seek answers. I believe in offering services in a compassionate and humble way that honors others in a respectful way.

What are your interests outside of work?

I like to spend time running and training for races, reading professional- related books and articles as well as historical fiction, and spending time walking with friends. My favorite thing to do is to play games and spend time with my daughters.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Since I was 16 years old, I have been running, almost daily, to connect with my own physical, mental, and spiritual self in order to heal childhood wounds and grow as a loving, compassionate, human being. Exercise offers many health benefits and provides clarity to address the curve balls of life.

What book have you read more than once?

The Aztec by Gary Jennings. This book offers a unique experience and paints a world so different than my own modern life experience that it captures my heart and every human emotional I can feel.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Rady Children's Hospital Foundation as I have had to utilize their specialized treatment programs, medical and non-medical, to meet the special needs of my oldest daughter who needed support in her development. They offer a wide range of services to meet the need of children and serving children has been at the heart of my mission in life.

How do you recharge?

I recharge by walking with friends and spending play time with my daughters as it allows me freedom to be myself without fear of any judgment and offers love unconditionally. I also love to read as it provides individual time and time away from life's pressures as well as learning opportunities.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have two Dobermans. My favorite pet story is not really a story but an appreciation of a trait and it has to do with my dog, Coco, who demonstrates a natural ability to offer emotional support to my oldest daughter. Every night, Coco sleeps with my daughter and also claims the bed as her own. Even when my daughter is at school, Coco will take naps in her bed and will protect the space from our other dog, Canelo.
