Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health professional because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others and be a caring adult to those in need of one. I have experienced several challenges throughout my life and know that there are times when life feels incredibly difficult. At times, I needed a caring person to be present for me, and I did not always have one available. As a mental health professional, I now have the opportunity, to hold a safe, non-judgmental, supportive space for those in need of one. I love being able to see the growth in those that I partner with, and as they grow and develop, I do as well.

What are your interests outside of work?

My interests outside of work, include, spending time with my family and friends, reading books, being active, being creative, and going to concerts. I enjoy art, exercise, music, dancing, and socializing with others.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

To support my mental and emotional well-being I practice self-care. This includes doing the things that I enjoy. I love to read books on self-help, self-development, and increasing joy.

How do you recharge?

I carve out small amounts of time each day to recharge. Most days recharging is on the simple smaller side, like enjoying a delicious cup of coffee or tea and being in the mindful moment of just experiencing the brief break, some quiet time, and the deliciousness of my beverage. Other times, my recharge is slightly more extensive, including exercise, fresh air, and an outdoor activity like a bike ride or a hike. Occasionally, my recharge is more elaborate like a night away at a bed and breakfast, camping, or a nice vacation.

Do you have any pets?

I grew up with various pets including cats, dogs, a turtle, a ferret, a snake, and an iguana. As an adult, I have continued to have pets including, cats, dogs, fish, and a hamster. One of my favorite memories of my kitten is how she would climb up me as I was washing dishes and perch herself on my shoulder and patiently wait until I finished that task to give her some love and attention.
