Therapy style
I am a Black therapist with about 10 years of experience working with a wide breadth of clients from various cultural backgrounds and diversities. My clinical experience began when I started working for a smoking cessation helpline that used Motivational Interviewing to engage our clients. From my experience, I sought out more training and obtained my master’s in counseling psychology and gained more experience working at a residential program for the severely mentally ill. After completing my program, I moved back home and started to work for an organization that helped children and families through community-based therapy and gained immense experience working with kids and their families.
My specialties include working with the severely mentally ill, children and adolescents, adults of all ages with a focus on anxiety, depression, grief work, college counseling, couples, families, and eating disorders. I primarily work from a Cognitive Behavioral background looking at how your thoughts can influence your feelings and behaviors and developing coping skills to manage thoughts and better regulate feelings.
My main goal in therapy is to meet the client where they are at and provide treatment and support based on the goals and needs of the client. I am very energetic, positive, and down to earth while also being mindful to match my client’s energy and personality. I am a strong believer in creating a stable and therapeutic connection with my clients so as to build trust in the therapeutic relationship.
