My Therapy Style

Counselors employ a myriad of skills and interventions to support the health and well-being of the individuals we serve. We base our understanding of human behavior and cognition on foundational theories. I rely heavily on an integrated counseling approach encompassing several theories used to frame strategies to assist individuals in achieving the best versions of themselves. I utilize a client-centered method of directive communication, and motivational interviewing, in addition to Solution-focused, Cognitive Behavioral, and systems theories. These are all well-established, researched, and respected therapies.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health professional to understand the inner workings of emotions and how they affect human beings. Simply put "Why do we behave the way we do?" With more understanding of this question, I felt I could help support my own mental well being and make an impact in the lives of others.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love to listen to music. I originally wanted to be a music journalist. I enjoy exploring different kinds of music, films, and art. I love trivia.

What book have you read more than once?

The Highly Sensitive Person by Dr. Elaine Aron. I first read this book at age 18. I credit it to helping me understand myself, tap into my emotions and hone my empathy skills. This book was my opening guide into the mental health realm.

How do you recharge?

I like to take a few moments to be alone. I understand how overwhelming it can be when we take in sights, sounds, energy, and heavy emotions. Remaining mindful and spending a few moments to identify positive things around me or in my life. Thinking about my happy places, the ocean, bodies of water, nature, trees. I think being outside really helps us to connect with our natural environment.
