Therapy style
I practice from a Humanistic or Person-Centered perspective. This means I believe in the potential and inherent desire of people to grow and develop into their best selves. Many times - whether due to their childhood upbringing, relationships with caregivers and primary attachment figures, their culture, oppression, education/instruction, religious institutions, or beliefs about self - individuals are prevented from developing into their most authentic greater selves. In therapy, clients may uncover and unblock these barriers and find ways to bring them down and overcome them.
I also use Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) techniques, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused techniques, Harm Reduction, Strengths-Based approach, and Psychodynamic techniques to help clients identify and remove these barriers, live a healthier and improved life, alleviate suffering, have greater optimism, acquire insight, and increase self-awareness as well as self-in-relationship awareness.
I have significant experience working with older populations and gerontology.
