Therapy style
My approach with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is to help individuals challenge faulty and irrational cognitions that have been triggering maladaptive behaviors within themselves and finally put an end to negative thoughts. I like to focus on modifying existing behavior patterns, including assisting clients to reduce negative interactions among family members or friends and increasing positive communication and problem-solving abilities. My focus is to help clients identify their dysfunctional behaviors and thoughts, modify their cognitions and interactions, design certain strategies to be implemented at home, and teach them new and effective behaviors and ways of communicating in a healthier manner. I also concentrate on educating clients about CBT, how it works, and how their cognitions influence their thoughts, behaviors, and relationships.
I focus on cognitive restructuring to challenge individuals and their thoughts about themselves and others so they can work towards reframing their faulty cognitions, thinking more positively and realistically, and reducing dysfunctional behaviors. In addition, the problem-solving technique helps clients address problems and unhealthy behaviors within the session and then eventually find healthy solutions. In sessions, modeling and role-playing will also be taught and practiced to encourage effective communication skills. Finally, I like to provide homework assignments that clients can do at home that can encourage positive behaviors. Mindfulness strategies, such as deep breathing is taught during sessions to help assist the client in reducing anxiety, and depression and can eliminate the frequency of panic attacks.
