My Therapy Style

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 16 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping adults and adolescents with depression, stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, motivation, self esteem and confidence, and bipolar disorder, among other conditions.

I utilize a mix of humor and empathy in therapy, and focus on empowering my clients. I like to take the client's lead as to whether they prefer a more passive, listening approach or if they want to set and achieve goals. I can assign weekly tasks to achieve goals or take a less active approach. I utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, and Behavioral Activation to assist clients with learning the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, as well as to learn and use effective coping strategies.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I have known from a young age that I was interested in learning about people, and was skilled at listening and helping people. Since adolescence, I never wanted to be anything other than a mental health professional, and stayed on that path.

What are your interests outside of work?

I have 2 young children who keep me very busy and I love engaging in play and projects with them. In my limited non-kid time, I love music and going to concerts, reading, and watching movies.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

I am a huge proponent of deep breathing and practice it daily.

What book have you read more than once?

The Awakening by Kate Chopin, about the mental state of a repressed woman who wants so much more for herself. The first time I read the book, I was so struck by the depression and desperation. Obviously I am drawn to the mental health aspect of the book.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

The Sea Turtle Conservancy. I have always loved sea turtles, have been to some hatchings and watched baby turtles crawl into the ocean for the first time. I am concerned about their wellbeing and a clean ocean.

How do you recharge?

After the kids are asleep, I do some deep breathing, enjoy a nice dinner and spend time with my husband, usually bingeing our latest show!

Do you have any pets?

I have always had dogs growing up and had 2 chihuahuas for 15 years, Spike and Sadie. Unfortunately Spike passed in 2020 and Sadie passed just recently in October 2022. I don't have a specific story, but will always remember how close the dogs were, how Spike would groom Sadie and they loved playing together.
