I have embraced the journey of helping individuals impacted by trauma through my work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist initially in Georgia and now in New York. I have worked with families, couples, and individuals to address an array of life obstacles including depression, anxiety, domestic violence, incarceration, unemployment, and child abuse. My priority is to help you function at your highest level through mindfulness and ultimately independent resolutions.
BA - Psychology, Agnes Scott College
MS - Marriage and Family Therapy, Northcentral University
I became a therapist to better understand people after my own obstacles as a child being severely bullied sparked my curiosity. I began learning psychology and sociology and once I began helping people I learned it was my passion. I love to work in advocacy spaces and serve individuals who traditionally do not have access to therapy.
Outside of work I spend most my time with my wellness brand, Black Wellness Initiative. I teach self-care techniques including yoga to youth at local non-profits. I also create a social justice podcast called "Mind Over Melanin" to discuss hot topics that impact BIPOC people.
Mindfulness and meditation help me on a daily basis and I journal and work out less often but it typically makes me feel much better if I need the boost.
I have read Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome more than once because it gives insight and a perspective in how slavery has impacted African Americans and their culture today.
I have a 12 year old shih-tzu named Desmond Sawyer. He is named from the show "Lost" and he loves to chew through the airport-approved bags while in-flight and run loose while I am sleep. He has done it 3 times over the decade and it is quite embarrassing when it happens!
