My Therapy Style

My therapy style is welcoming, practical and non-judgmental. I partner with my clients in a joint labor of compassion and attunement to help a client recognize and surmount self-defeating patterns causing distress. By paying close attention to the body through moment to moment somatic tracking, we are able to help you reach core emotion integration which releases anxiety and improves capacity.

Get to Know Me

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I wanted to provide the underserved of my community this crucial human development resource.

What are your interests outside of work?

My big loves since early childhood are reading, writing, and playing in nature. I have been a knitter since my grad school days. My family and I love to hike and camp in our National Parks. We also love to travel internationally. Both my husband and I have lived and worked abroad, he in Africa and I've lived in London. We want to show our children life outside America.

What is one thing you do daily that supports your well-being?

Walk. I look up at the sky, listen to the birdsong, and enjoy the changing foliage.

What book have you read more than once?

Diana, Herself by Martha Beck. It is a fictional tale that offers a practical roadmap to listening to one's body and intuition which inspires me in my work and life.

Favorite organization/non-profit?

Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. I was a social work intern at Public Counsel on the Children's Rights Project in 2002 and had the opportunity to work with youth in delinquency at Central Juvenile Hall as a mental health advocate. The Jesuits who run Homeboy also ran a volunteer service at the Hall. I came to see first-hand the opportunity Homeboy offers the disenfranchised and unwanted of society, a second chance at a productive life. They do great work under very hard circumstances.

How do you recharge?

I hike regularly in our local hills with my hiking partner, also a therapist, since our agency days. I listen to music, visit our local arboretum, garden, and visit with friends and attend to my spiritual life.

Do you have any pets?

We have a very spoiled dog named Chewy. We have had him since he was a rescue puppy. Chewy adores his field trips to the dog beach. A few miles out, he recognizes where we are headed and he begins to wag his tail and gets gets so excited! I love to watch him run at full speed, free and full of joy. The water glistening in the sun, surfers waiting for their waves, and Chewy finding new friends to play with.
