My previous career was in theater and arts education. I worked as a Playwright in Residence at a large midwestern theater and became involved in outreach. I taught writing and creative drama to groups such as children in pediatric oncology units and adults in rehab for substance abuse. These fulfilling experiences, along with my own extremely helpful time spent as a client in therapy, fueled my desire to go back to school and become a therapist myself.
I love dogs and have currently four! I swim and walk for exercise, and love the beach. Going outside always calms me and makes me happy. I am an old movie buff and enjoy Turner Classic Movies. Most of all, staying connected with the friends and family I love reminds me of what is important.
Every day my best friend (who is also a therapist) and I text each other. Those little messages of love, support and teasing start the day off right!
Harriet the Spy. It was my favorite childhood book, and I still love it.
I work with a group called Stand Down House who do a wonderful job assisting homeless Veterans with finding housing, affording deposits, and obtaining employment.
Making sure to take a break during the day, no matter how busy, and going for a walk outside with no technology.
I have four dogs: three Boston Terriers and one large black Lab mix. My little sister is a Veterinarian and a constant source of rescue dogs. I once had a beagle named Woody who joined the family by constantly digging under the fence to hang out with my dogs... his owner finally just gave up and gifted Woody to us! That's the only dog who ever picked ME rather than the other way around. And I'm proud to say he never chose to dig his way out back again.
